BEHIV
With support from volunteers and community leaders, Better Existence with HIV (BEHIV) was founded in 1989 in response to the growing numbers of people living with HIV in Chicago, Evanston and the surrounding communities. From the very beginning, BEHIV, the only comprehensive HIV/AIDS service provider for the North Shore and one of only a few such agencies in the City of Chicago, has helped people living with HIV/AIDS cope with medical and emotional crises, as well as provided support to their partners, spouses, family members and friends.
BEHIV Annually:
- Educates more than 12,000 young people about how to protect themselves from the virus, because HIV increasingly affects our youth
- Houses more than 190 men, women and children impacted by HIV, who might otherwise be homeless
- Delivers case management, mental health, art therapy and massage therapy services to more than 300 adults who need a lifeline to supportive services
- Provides 1,000 free HIV and sexually transmitted infection tests to our most vulnerable populations
BEHIV remains a leader in Chicago and the suburbs in fighting the spread of HIV by conducting HIV testing and counseling, educating youth, reaching out to persons at risk for HIV and providing comprehensive services for people infected and affected by the virus. |

Youth Outlook
Youth Outlook is the only agency in the DuPage, Kane, and DeKalb counties of Illinois dedicated solely to serving LGBTQ youth. In order to accomplish our mission, we provide wellness education on a variety of topics including HIV/AIDS, leadership development, and social networking needs. Youth Outlook (formerly Questioning Youth Center (QYC))has been committed to providing a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for adolescents, whether they identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or questioning. With the continued decreases in education funding and a lack of resources for all youth, Youth Outlook is committed to educating the at risk youth of the LGBTQ communities in the western suburbs about HIV/AIDS. |
